You've left out a key piece of information - the year of the car.

1993-1997 use an infrared fob, 1998-2001 use an RF fob. The two types are not compatible.

Ok well assuming its an infrared type programming is easy - put a spare key into the ignition and turn it on, then immediately point the fob at the receiver dome in the ceiling and keep pressing the buttton about 30 times, then turn the key off and test it.

Worked for me...

Checking key fob

Post by therealyeti »

Still trying to sort my locking problems, wasnt sure if fob was actually working, red led showed it did, but to check output from infrared LED I pointed it at video camera set to nightshot, shows led is giving a good strong signal, works for all infrared remotes, doesnt tell you much, but at least i know to look more to the roof sensor now, and judging by how loose the box is in it`s plastic clips it`s had atention before.

Apparently the seal around the radio antenna can leak and let water into the infrared receiver, damaging it.

The IR receiver in my Dad's Xantia doesn't work, and it shows some signs of water corrosion on the board, and so far we havn't been able to revive it.... :( If we plug the receiver from my Xantia into his car, it works fine.

On the plus side, you should be able to get one from a scrapyard as they are literally 30 seconds to remove from the ceiling, and you can swap the receiver from one car to another without problems, and then reprogram it...

Don't forget to check the seal on the antenna if it does look like water was the cause...

Thats a shame Mandrake, I have just scrapped a 1994 Xantia and could have sent you the IR receiver if I had known. Postage can't be that much to the other side of the world.
Maybe a forum section for bits wanted free might be a good idea. When item's are found the post could be deleted making the list live. Maybe all request's over 6 months old could be deleted also.
