C 5 5th gear

Anybody know why the car is still in 5th gear even though you take it
out of gear. I have to put the gear stick back into 5th and bring it
out again before it is out of gear

This seems clearly a cable problem.
I personaly advise you to handle this to a dealer. I've been there, saw it then forgot; even on an elevator, the cables at the gearbox siede are a bit inaccessible, and you have to remove practically all the heat-shielding under the belly pan to access the cables at the selector lever.

I did take it to the dealers and they changed the cable, made no difference, they then put on modified cables which made it better but still has the same symptoms
