Post by ricflair »

hi,

ive started to notice a grinding noise coming from the passenger side rear wheel. Its gradually getting noiser and is only happening when im driving slow. ITs not all the time either, its quite intermittant and can not happen for a while before suddenly sounding awfull,.

Going to try and get it into a garage this week

any ideas?

Probably corrosion building up under the brake caliper, this pushes the caliper over and into contact with the disc, usually accompanied by squeeling brakes.

If thats the problem, then it should be easy if you dont mind a bit of spanner twirling. Just take the calliper off and clean it up. Worth putting some copper grease in the calliper runners too.

Does the noise get worse when turning? If so i could be the CV joint, as mine is suffering with at the mo.

Dont mean to worry you,but could it be the rear hub bearings slowly wearing out.
I found out recently upon renewing my rearsuspension arms the nearside(passenger) hub bearing was on its way out as I could feel a 'notchyness' when rotating the bearing plus I found that lubricating grease was drying out.The car had only coverd 107k miles. :-k

...Or it could be that you dont have any lining on your rear brake pads.

Could also be badly worn rear arm bearings. I have seen them so bad (on a BX) that the tyre was contacting the inside of the wheel arch.
