xantia activa - upgrades?
what upgrades can i give my xantia activa?
i`ve been quoted £167+ vat for a new cam - seeing as the one in the turbo engine is so lazy its horizontal
but , what about the `basics` like a panel filter (k&n type) or a manual boost controller?

I can see where you are coming from, but I'm of the opinion that the Activa is a pretty special car as it is.. It is a pretty simple venture to make a car go faster, but to make a car do what yours does is something else entirely ( Remember the Maestro turbo? that went like stink but who cared?) In the not too distant future the activa will probably be a classic, and to have (a standard) one that does what it should will be quite something. Could you not give it a mild ecu remap? The CT engine is designed for "flat" power delivery, so you could in fact be going a bit quicker than you think. Whatever you decide I hope you can keep the car going ! Best Wishes, Martin
I won't do that again

Hi,
I totally agree with the last post from mpr1956. The Activa is indeed something very special.
I am not quite aware which model you have, if the 2.0CT or 3.0V6 but I would not change any hardware....
A remap and a K&N filter will make her quite faster.

My Activa is standard, except for the fact that I've increased the tension on the turbo waste gate actuator.
It feels much hotter and pins you back in your seat when you floor it.
I tried to adjust the actuator arm in situ. But, it had been peened to lock it. So, I took the complete actuator off and drilled the peening out. I then shortened the arm length by two turns. It seemed to be faster but I didn't measure much boost increase. So, I went back under and applied another turn. I haven't measured the boost yet. I haven't bothered because it feels so eager I think I have made a nice bit of improvement. The spring tension is proportional to the extension squared. So the change in tension will rapidly increase the more you shorten the arm. I think 3 turns is just about right. I'm trying to resist the temptation to go to 3 1/2 or even 4 turns. ....... well maybe just to see what happens...... where's that 10 mil spanner ?
I also fitted a K&N panel filter. Cost approx 34 quid.
The economy hasn't changed either. Still 25 mpg however I drive it. The trouble is, it just asks you to go faster. In fact, I think its too fast. It can't be right to drive something so fast. I am seriously thinking of selling it and sticking with my turboD Xantia.
Cheers,
Kev

yes its the 2 litre turbo (CT engine) ;
the active anti roll its probably the best i`ve ever seen - it really is very very good (being totally honest) and just goes where i point it - all the time!
2.1TD? well my other car is a 306 1.9TD - its great for the school run (and going to work) but its still a turbo tractor - but hey it does 450 miles per tank which the xan doesn`t
i`ve seen a V6 activa - not sure where but i have seen one (someone on the activa owners club has one i think) - btw theres less than 600 activa`s left in the uk!
i`ll get a panel filter for it as a start
and maybe a manual boost guage as well (maybe)

sorry to reply to my own message:
its not that its `quick` off the line , its not - but on the move its something else;
i`ve kept up with a bmw M5 on the move before from 70 through to 120 on a blast down the motorway , and i think the bmw was VERY surprised i was still there
- but it was a freezing morning so yeah for charge temp
but thats the beuty of this engine - its just so darn smooth.
but i could still use more of the `kick in the pants `feel
a brief cnvo with matt from catcams , and he says the cam in teh CT is as mild as a 1.1
and he`s not joking either, the profile is :
240° inlet & duration
380° lift/throw
246° exhaust lift/duration
which is so lazy its unbelievable;
they do one which is:
256° inlet & duration
399° lift/throw
256° exhaust lift/duration
again not `wild` as they want to keep the CT aspect of the engine - but it gives more power through the whole range
coupled with a boost increase and a remap and its my opinion that 200 bhp can he had quite easily from the standard engine.

Is your Activa as original at the moment with standard set up ?
Keeping up with an M5 is surprising if you have no mods.
I must admit, intercooled turbo cars do like cold and damp days. I notice a power increase on such days with my Activa and I've always felt it with my turboD which i've had a lot longer.
