Xantia electrics fun.

Post by Quackers »

Anybody had this with there Xantia? Its driving me mad!

First of all it all started ages ago when i pulled up one night, turned car off had the key out of the ignition and in my hand and the stereo was still going all the electric window lights were still on, and the interiour lights came on and locking the doors did not make them go off, so i ended up pulling the fuses out! o also the battery light was lit on the dash too.

So at first i thought the barrel had gone on the ignition, so playing around with the car, removed the shroud around the steering column disconnected COMPLETLY the ignition and all the lights and battary light on dash remained on. So it could not be the barrel.

For some reason i found banging under the steering column hard made them all go off. :? :?

Anyway it went back to normal after i banged and popped all the fuses back in so i left it that.

Well now its started doing it again, but this time its taken the rear electric windows and electric sunroof with it, and when you press the child safety button for the rear electric windows, instead of lighting up bright like it should when active, it just goes blank! Also the outdoor tempreture display is coming up with all mad readings like -40c +70c its really odd.

Anybody else had this kind of experience? Banging hard under the steering column seems to fix it for a very short while.

Its a 2.0 Turbo Activa, 96.

Do i just get one of these from Citroen then for about £1000 ?

So its just a case of taking out the ignition and taking off the "switch" part and replacing with a new one?

Theres a modification you can do with a relay to stop the new switch failing, Its been covered a few times on the forum.

A new ignition switch isnt expensive from Citroen.

One of the Xantia owners will be along soon & point you in the right direction
