XM mk2 disable immobilizer code
Hi, i have attempted to disable the immobilizer by setting it to 0-0-0-0
on my '98 XM as stated in the manual.
All this does is set it to the given number, but still has to be entered to start.
The procedure i used is:
- unlock by entering the current code
- press 'C'
- press '0-0-0-0'
- press 'C' again
- i get a 4-beep confirmation
What needs to be done, and what is the purpose of the 'S' button.
Tnx.

1994 - 405 GTX XU10J2 - x 1
All you have done with your procedure is change the start code to 0 0 0 0
The S button ( Service mode ) is to set the keypad to another 4 digit unlock code that a garage / friend or other person can start the car with but NOT change your original 4 digit code or get into the remote keyfob keypad unlock settings.
So to use service mode you enter your 4 digit code
Press S
Enter another 4 digit code
Press S again
Six flashes from the green led & six beeps from the keypad means its happy.
The keypad will now start with the service code you just used.
To erase the service code when you get the car back just enter your original 4 digit code
Im pretty sure you CANNOT turn the S button type keypad off because since June 1995 its been insurance approved to Thatcham Cat 2
Im not sure if it works on the XM but on other PSA cars with S button keypads & RF plips you can set the remote keyfob to unlock the keypad for one minute when you remotely unlock the car

You get 3 goes at the code before it locks you out for 30 minutes.
Its insurance approved to Thatcham Cat 2
Its a good system

Nino, as far as I am aware the keypad cannot be bypassed. The "automatic" mode would seem to be the best option for you, it certainly works for me.
This, as you probably know, gives you one minute after unlocking the doors to start the engine without having to use the code. If you need another minute, just lock and unlock the doors again.
But if your "1" button is not working you have a problem because the procedure to set automatic mode is:
Switch on ignition, enter your security code, within ten seconds of the green light coming on enter "C1C" (without the apostrophes). You should then get four green flashes to confirm you are in automatic mode.
As you can see, you need the "1" button!
What makes you think it isn't working? Try changing your personal code to 1111 and see what happens.

So button 1 isn't working.
Change the code to something with NO 1s in it in case the keypad locks up in the near future!
Its the little fragile raised foil type button that's faulty on your keypad button 1, If your very good with a soldering iron you can repair it, But most people get a second hand keypad or look on Ebay, Ive seen NEW boxed keypads go for less then £10 in the last 12 months.
nino1 your XM has the S button Thatcham Cat 2 insurance approved keypad fitted & the 4 digit start code is stored in the keypad & the engine ECU on this system.
NOTE: If your going down the second hand keypad trail then BOTH the keypad on your car & the car the second hand keypad comes from MUST be set to the SAME 4 digit code BEFORE ANYTHING is unplugged!
If you start messing around with the keypads you COULD lock the ECU permanently & sometimes even a Citroen dealer wont be able to unlock it!
Set them BOTH to the SAME code first & you will be fine
