Xantia Identity Crisis

Post by CitroJim »

I saw a Xanita today in my fair town and it appeared to have something of an identity crisis. It had chevrons on the bonnet and on the grille! I was so taken with this that I missed the registration letter completely or any other detail for that matter...

So what was it all about? Was there ever a Mk1.5 or has it been repaired at some time with whatever was available.

It actually looked quite good....

The chevrons were moved from the bonnet to the grill during series one, not sure of the exact year but some time around 1995 or 1996. There were no models that had chevrons in both places, most likely either the bonnet or the grill has been replaced on that car...

Regards,
Simon

PS much prefer the chevrons on the grill as my 1997 has 8)

Well like the badge thread we had previously on this link.

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... ght=badges

It does make you wonder about the I.Q. of the person who made the mistake with the badge, and what quality of work if any, has been done in other areas on the car.

Yes, I agree the double chevron badge looks better on the grill.

The badges moved from bonnet to grille at the same time that anti-sink was fitted and the seatbelt tensioners and the airbag became standard. My '94 Xantia ('M' Reg) has all of the above. I've not seen the badges on the bonnet on an 'M' reg, only on 'K' (93) and 'L' (93/94) plates.

Must be different in some other countries then...

My Dad's Xantia was made in November 1994, and it has Anti-sink, but no airbag, and not sure about seatbelt tensioners, and it still has the chevron on the bonnet....

Anders,

We don't have M reg, P reg, L reg, or any of that stuff in New Zealand.... thats strictly a UK thing...

In fact it took me a while when first joining this forum to figure out what people were talking about when saying things like P reg...

We just go by the year here.

Simon
