ABS sensor type

Post by windysurferuk »

Hi

Bought an ABS sensor from an 'R' reg Xantia to replace a faulty one on my R reg.

When I came to swap them over they where diffrent.
can any one confirm if this is the correct type for an 'R' reg as it is diffrent from the one fitted on my car

Image

I'm trying to work out if my car has the earlier type fitted :?

You dont mention front or rear ?

They look the same on schematic drawings.
Citroen PR-net reveals these part no's :
Xantia I
96 113 241 ABR SENSOR front UNTIL RPO No. 06443
4545 43 ABR SENSOR front SINCE RPO No. 06444
4545 54 ABR SENSOR rear UNTIL RPO No. 07631
4545 74 ABR SENSOR rear SINCE RPO No. 07632
Xantia II
4545 73 ABR SENSOR front
4545 74 ABR SENSOR rear

(ABR = ANTI-BLOCAGE ROUE)

R-reg I belive covers 97-98 yearmodels ? And Xantia II (facelift) model was available during '98 ?
So you have to go by RP number and sensor part number.

Shouldnt there be a white piece of paper stuck to the end of the sensor if its new?

Its used to set the correct gap when the sensor is fitted?

Just had a look at the sensor fitted to my 1997 'r' reg 2.1 TD but can't see any of the numbers you listed!

GSF only list two type of sensor

XANTIA >8/94 & XANTIA 8/94>

So I assumed that if I bought a sensor from a 'R' reg car it should have fitted to my car.

The numbers shown on the sensor currently fitted to my car are

10.0751-1136.3

962399038

1747

The make is ATE

Now I have NO idea which sensor to buy to fit my car!

The sensor was bought second hand from this forum.

BTW it is a front sensor :D

1) Ask the seller for RP no (or at least year model) the sensor was taken from/bought for.
2) Find out the RP no for your R-reg Xantia.

You say its the front sensor. We narrow it in then. Now we only need to know if your R-reg is a phase I or a facelift Xantia model.

"Facelift" or Series 2 Xantia's are those from about 1998 onwards, the most obvious differences are (a) the grill is attached to the bonnet when it opens, whereas Series one the grill stays with the bumper, and (b) Series 1 Xantia's have a "grab rail" above the passenger glovebox, Series 2 do not. (They have a bigger glove box or an airbag there)

According to the data I have the air gap is 0.6mm to 1.8mm, and is not adjustable...

Just fitted the sensor from the facelift model and set the gap using washers.

( The only difference between the one on my car and the second hand one is the thickness of the bit where the bolt goes)

Started the car and drove round the block and the light when out :D

It now seems to be working as it should. The light comes on when I first start the car, stays on for about 5 seconds and then goes out and stays out.

It looks like the sensor is the correct one but with
different dimensions
