central locking problem

Unread post by liamkeen »

if anyone read my post yesterday about the problem with my car i think the stereo was tripping the central locking/clock and interior lights after fiddling with a suspect stereo there is one door not working properly when you use the RCL.
i even stripped the fuel filler cap lock out from under the wheel arch and thats working fine
but its as if the central locking is sticking
sometimes when you try using the key after the RCL stopped working you can hear the central motor but sometimes not its driving me nuts
any help welcomed cheers chaps

There should be an electric solenoid (actuator) on each door. I know 'cos I was looking at the one on my bootlid today 'cos it's noisy. Try cleaning the elec connector or get another one from the scrappy. Maybe it was this dodgy actuator that was blowing the fuse........................

Remove the door panel on affected door. The actuator will be near back of door handle, joined to lock by metal rod. They are held on by two 8mm bolts on most cars (I haven't checked my Xantia yet) Piece of p*** to change

Good luck.................

just been out to the car trying to fix it and all i can explain the central locking as is random sometimes boot locks sometimes it doesnt but the stereo keeps pulsing/surging and reseting itself which has got to be related to the RCL?
when i press the key fob there is clicking from the central console by the handbrake and also in the drivers door?
what can it be if its worse case scenario?

Worst case scenario :

Faulty earth connection under the carpeting near handbrake.
Because this means chairs and guiderails out to remove carpeting and then accessing the earth points. Center console must go out too.

Another possibility is simply a chafed cable in cable loom for the affected door. A very common problem these days on ANY car, as the makers dont think we can live without electric window winders in our cars.

Apart from that, there is one general rule of thumb you must NEVER forget :
No matter what you think you know about your car, it is ALWAYS highly likely that the problem originates from your last fiddling with your car !
Even profi mechs do it all the time !
