xantia sx hdi 2000 1999 - stiff steering on cornering

Post by chrissib »

seems like fluid low but think its same fluid for brakes clutch and suspension.

am i looking for another resovoir, if so can anyone describe its position in the engine compartment. read posts referring to filters and pipes, belts slipping. how can i diagnose for sure.

suspension a bit bouncy at front, could this be related?

The clutch uses a cable or a sealed fluid system of its own.
This tank is for the LHM fluid, doing brakes, suspension and steering.
The level indicator must be as shown on the high suspension setting.
If it's higher, as it often is, no problem.
If it's low, it may affect the steering.
Other favourites for hard steering are loose belt, and air getting into the hose from the LHM tank to the pressure pump.
Bouncy front is not likely to be related, providing that the front is at the correct height.

thanks for the info!

fluid was low at full height, only with the engine running. without the engine running the marker was above the top line. when the engine was started it dropped below the lower line, so i put more fluid in. :?:

Your bouncy suspension is probably due the front spheres needing replacement. The fluid level should be as Clogzz diagram at full suspension hieght.

Yes,

Check and top up the level with the engine running. Any leakage in the system anywhere will cause the reading to start rising when the engine is turned off as oil leaks back to the tank...
