Xantia radio speaker wiring

Post by D.Slatford »

My present Xantia's had its speaker wiring butchered to bits with bare ended wires and missing speaker plug.

Fortunately I have another plug from the Xantia I'm breaking, but does anyone have a pinout of the 8 speaker terminals on the back of a Xantia radio?

These days car radios have standardised connections :

Try if these colours apply to your radio (from an earlier Fisher radio) :
4 speaker system
white+ & white/black- to front left speaker
green+ & green/black- to rear left speaker
gray+ & gray/gray/black- to front right speaker
violet+ & violet/black- to rear right speaker

(i.e. colour+ means this colour wire carries the speaker plus signal - and colour/colour- means this wire carries the same speaker minus signal)

Unfortunately that doesn't help. In the car I have a bunch of mostly green and brown wires with bare ends. I can figure out through trial and error how they pair by just by putting a multimeter or similar methodically across them and listening for which speaker clicks! There's more than four pairs, so presumably there's two pairs for the tweeters in parallel with the fronts.

I have the missing 8 way connector from another car with different coloured wires attached. All I need to know is which pins on this connector corrosond with which speakers.

I don't know how they're mean to be numbered, but consider the ASCII art, which pin is which?

Code: Select all

  |[1] [2] [3] [4]|
==|---------------|
  |[5] [6] [7] [8]|

Page 98 of the owners manual.

|2|4|6|8|
|1|3|5|7|

1 rhr +
2 rhr -
3 rhf +
4 rhf -
5 lhf +
6 lhf -
7 lhr +
8 lhr -

This is for the speaker connector on the loom as its pins face you.

Gah, after ages of googling and searching different boards and groups, there it is, page 90 of the manual, not the first place I thought of looking :P
