Intermittent Tacho Failure

Unread post by zzf00l »

After some extensive engine work... my 1999 Xantia 1.9td has developed an intermittent fault with the Tacho operation. I fully expect that I have caused this problem by disturbing wiring/plugs etc during engine overhaul. The fault (needle drops to zero for a short time) seems to be connected to application of brakes or direction indicator... So where should I be looking??

The first place to look is the TDC sensor connector which is located on the passenger side end of the engine just above the gearbox. Its just a 2 pin plug and socket, pull it apart, clean and apply a little grease.
