Diesel ZX and Xantia fuel supply problems

Unread post by jgra1 »

Hi all, both myself and my flatmate seem to have similar problems with our diesels.. They are hard to start after a few days..

I have checked and renewed faulty glow plugs in mine and will do hers soon. But both of us need to prime the fuel supply a lot while plugs are warming to have a hope of an easy start.

On mine, the fuel supply from filter is a clear tube, and its allmost all airbubbles.. the prime bulb is soft for about ten squeezes on both.

So, have we got air leaks? or is there a one-way valve in the bulb which is now rubbish? or both....? I guess the filter housing could let air in..

thanks as always..

Hi John.As you may have read I had a similar problem with my car. Replacing the glow plugs and fuel filter made no difference, the problem in the end turned out to be the injector leak off pipes.Very easy and cheap to replace. In flygirl's case it was a leaking fuel filter housing,it could also be perrished fuel lines.Hope this helps,Merry Christmas,Suzie.

The leakoff pipes will only affect the starting of cars fitted with the Bosch pump, the Roto-diesels just make a mess and smell. Roto-diesels use pressurised fuel as part of the control mechanism and air in these parts can make the engine run fast!

Pleased you were successful.
