Adjusting front height corrector

Post by Frenchie_SCG »

Hello!
After some fiddling with my Xantia, I buggered front height of the car.
If someone could post like step by step tutorial for adjusting the height, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks :)

no idea if its a lot different from my 96 Xantia but jack up the front and support with stands.

Set the car to normal ride height. Loosen the clamp and nudge round, the front on mine was very senstive compared to the rear, leave the engine running and fiddle about but be quick as apparently when that fan kicks in you canny be breathe under there (is that right Wilkobob?)

Well first of all you need either drive on wheel ramps, a 4 post hoist, or a pit. Without one of these you CANNOT adjust the front height. Do you have access to one of these ?

Hello Mandrake,
I was hoping you will reply. I do have a pit and all the necessary tools, so all I need is instruction.

If you have a pit surely its just as simple as running the engine, having the car on normal ride height, loosening the clamp which is fixed round the anti roll bar? (or is this just the back) .... and nudging it round one way or the other until the car goes up and down to desired height.

However im only a learner myself :)

Saw a Xantia estate with its rear in the end...i looked at the bloke in shame!

Health Warning Time!

Get this wrong and the car will fall and KILL you.

Always make sure the car is properly supported and there is sufficient room so that if it falls you will not be crushed, trapped etc before starting.

I think the OP has already said he's doing this in a pit, so unlikely to be crushed.

(although the health warning is obviously a good idea)

More of a health warning needed here is that you should NEVER run a car engine over a pit, as exhaust gas is heavier than air, and will accumulate in the pit. Carbon monoxide poisoning is fairly serious.

If you have to run an engine over a pit, make sure there's decent ventilation.
This is not a signature.

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hth+height

Also try a search of the forum for Mandrake and "Height Corrector" or something similar and you should find a detailed description, as I recall describing the procedure in great detail on at least 3 occasions in the last few months, but I'm too lazy to go searching for them myself...

Perhaps I should write a definitive account some time of how to adjust the height correctors on a Xantia and put it in the FAQ section ? Are we allowed to post in there or does a moderator have to put it there ?

Simon

Looks like the place to post is called "Common Problems & Fixes - Archive".
That forum is locked, and you would need to contact the overseeing moderator to post:

You can post without questions in the "Handy Hints and Tips", and also in the "Useful links" forum.
I did, and it's still there. :-$
