BX power steering

HELP!
my 1992 BX TZD has a problem with the power steering . The assistance keeps varying ,one minute the steering is V light ,next quite heavy. I have had the fluids and filter changed , tightened up the drive belt. The brakes and suspension are fine. It seems worse when it is all cold , fairly minimal effects when it all gets up to normal temperatures.

You need a new pump! PAS takes a high volume - and so while the pump will raise the car etc it does not supply sufficient volume for the PAS.

Surely this could also be a sticky FDV? well worth changing that for a known good one (are they dismantaleable?) before condemning the pump.

and whee will I find it ?

FDV means Flow Distribution Valve

I tried three known "good" pumps on my BX trying to improve things , then in desperation I went to GSF and bought a recon one, exactly the same
