Constant hissing after Accumulator change?

Unread post by robbocop33 »

There is now a constant hissing at idle(Hydraulics are working brilliantly)and this constant hissing only goes away when i turn the steering.I know it shouldn't do this as my 2.0 turbo XM doesn't do it(this is a 2.1td).I'm starting to like these cars more and more, they're such a challenge,i must have a dark sadistic streak in me or something :-),fixing one thing then having something else play up is erm?Interesting and keeps me on my toes(well you lot on yer toes!)Thanks again,Lee!

Is air getting in? Does the LHM in the reservoir look aereated? (Like a mint alcopop) If so you may have a leak between the pump and the reservoir.

You could try opening and shutting the pressure relief screw again just to make sure its properly seated.

Does it stop when you rev the engine?

When i was opening and closing the pressure release screw it would do its normal thing, the second you close the screw its a slowly increasing whooshing sound for a second then a click,it was doing this everytime i opened it,then suddenly this constant hissing started while i was under the car and i had just closed the pressure release screw again,i'll check the hoses thoroughly tommorrow.

Mine does the same, it seems to be caused when the pressure drops below a certain level and the pump starts to operate, if you blip the throttle it charges up the accumulator and does'nt do it again for about 30 secs, or ,as you say move the steering which takes most of the pressure. I replaced the pressure regulator, no different, I then fitted a new pump because the pressure was very slow to come up when the weather turned cold, it cured that but is still hissing! although more quietly now, but it only does it at tickover. Anyone else got any suggestions?
