Citroen xm dash removal(mark 1 1993)
I have seen a step by step photographic explanation on another site, and in the Haynes manual for removing my dash(part with dot matrix etc on it)Most steps are the same as mine except for one part, when removing the top shroud above the steering wheel both explanations say you will now see two screws there(covered with blanking covers)one to the left, one on the right, not on mine there isn't!I have taken out every screw and there is still something seems to hold it around about the top of the steering wheel area.Anyone any ideas?

There ARE two torx head screws [left & right] to the sides of the top instrument binnacle. Yes, they DO live behind little black round caps about 8-10 mm in diameter. They're there honest!!robbocop33 wrote:I have seen a step by step photographic explanation on another site, and in the Haynes manual for removing my dash(part with dot matrix etc on it)Most steps are the same as mine except for one part, when removing the top shroud above the steering wheel both explanations say you will now see two screws there(covered with blanking covers)one to the left, one on the right, not on mine there isn't!I have taken out every screw and there is still something seems to hold it around about the top of the steering wheel area.Anyone any ideas?
THE TOP COVER WONT SWING UP AND OFF WITHOUT THESE REMOVED!
Incidentally, there are 4 plastic pegs that locate the top edge and you need to unclip the binnacle cover past the bottom lip [from behind the front dash edge]. The whole lot swings up and away from you on an imaginary pivot at the bottom rear of the instruments...
Have fun - and don't scratch the flat face that you see when looking at the instruments as it'll annoy you every time you see it!!

Its the two screws that are shown in diagrams i've seen that should be either side just above the top steering column shroud, they are just beneath the central display that shows the oil pressure/stop light etc. They should be underneath oblong blanking covers but i don't have them? They should face towards you. This pdf shows you(8th photo down)Where it says 'remove 2 no screws to remove dash'

Hi - realise now which part of the dash you've been talking about!! Doh!!
There's me believing you're after removal of the main instrument cluster NOT the dot matrix screen...
The two screws that are vertically screwed downwards into the front panel are only accessed when the main 'hood' I've mentioned earlier is removed.

Hi Lee.
From what you've sent me it's certain you're following Series 2 instructions and your car is a Series 1...
I've got hold of some Citroen diagrams showing the SERIES 1 dash and although not very clear, the fixing points. The two screws I refer to are the ones that hold the digital display panel (at the back of part 1 on the dash illustration). The top cowl (part 1 in the dash illustration) has to be removed so you can look down onto the top of the front panel (part 2).
