Headlight Motors

Post by gwoolie »

hiya,
The motors which contol the height adjustment have gone poop on my
Cit ZX1.9TD

I have sussed out how to remove them from the car, 1 clip and a large plastic nut.

1 I have stripped, cleaned and greased, then put back. This works.
But the other one still jams and wont go up or down.

Cant find one anywhere on GFS parts. Dealer will be more than the car....

I have adjusted it will an allen ket, but I do put different loads in the back ( estate ) and like to adjust the lights.

Cheers for any help.

Sure the other motor is jamming ?

Could as well be a cabling fault. Try the motor out feeding it from the battery. Then try the cabling using a headlight bulb instead of the motor (to load the cabling with approx same wattage as the motor)

Ive taken them out, 1 at a time, cleaned them out and re-greased.

Checked to make sure headlamp is moving freely

And tried the motor out of the car.

The one motor still jams, almost like a cog is k-nackered.

There was a brand new one on ebay last week, I don't think the geezer flogged it so he may be relist it at some time.

The multiplug contacts need to be good, if there are any bad connections it sends the motors wappy.

On mine the nearside plug went bad and this caused the offside motor to keep going when it should have stopped, this resulted in the revolving contacts wiping over the pcb where they shouldn't have, this blew some tracks out on the board which I had to link back up, anyway after all the faffing about and cleaning of the multiplugs they both worked again and have done ever since, that was a couple of years ago.
