Rocking front hub?

Post by zx&xantia »

Hi

I have a knock from the offside front suspension, i tought it was drop link but unfortunately not :( If i grab the front wheel at quarter to 3 i can rock the wheel hub from side to side. Repeat at the 12.30 position and no movement. Before taking it apart i want to seee if any one has any good ideas?

steering gear - OK
Drop link - doesn't account for movement
Driveshaft - is CV joint worn and allowing movement
Top suspension mount - rock solid
Bottom - Ball joint?

Any thoughts welcome so that i can try and have the solution bought and ready before separating hub assemblies :(

Many thanks for any suggestions

Track rod end?

CV joint will not cause this.
Bottom ball joint would cause exactly the opposite.
This is not a signature.

rack ball joint, loose rack (unlikely)

Won't be hub (double check if you like by getting someone to apply the brake while you test it), drive shaft, etc. I suppose it could be inner wishbone rubber bush.
