XM bonnet lock

Post by NiSk »

After many miles of motoring (460 000 km actually), the bonnet catche(s) (especially the near side) of my '93 XM TD12 have become increasing more difficult to stay shut.
During last week I took a quite look at them (wife wasn't happy about left hand edge popping up half an inch 5 mins after pressing it down) and though I had discovered wear on the catch mechanism (all my friends laughed their head off! "of course you wear out the bonnet catch on a Citroën!"). However, at the weekend I decided to dig a bit deeper and maybe do a little welding. Once I had degunged the lock (it was covered in 7 years worth of mixed road dirt and anti-rust spray) I found that the lock was in fact fine! It was just so full of crap that the engaging parts didn't come sufficiently close to each other.
So, if you're having trouble keeping the bonnet shut, just spend a little time degunging you bonnet locks!
