Laguna Airbag Light

Unread post by chrisb1357 »

Hi all,

I have a 1995 N Reg 1.8RT 8v Laguna and i have a probleme with my airbag light. The light comes on and flashes every few seconds. Is there a probleme with the airbag or is this something to do with the seat belt tensioners or wires under the seats. I cant afford to talk it in to a dealership to get it checked over,

If anyonr has any advice what could be causing this.

I doubt there is a rest button....most likely the dealers will need to reset it using software. You could try disconnecting the battery for a few hours and this might clear any codes stored in the ECU (worked for me in another issue)...BUT:

1) make sure you have the radio code first (if you need it);

and

2) be prepared for your car to run real bad until it relearns its settings (you could let it warm up to operating temp then run it at fast idle (about 4000rpm for 10 mins and this should sort it)

The following is for reference only and dont blame me if it dont work or further damage occurs !

I am being led to believe that the Laguna has a "service" bulletin for SRS airbag light problem.

The most likely problem is the seatbelt pre-tensioner wiring connectors

Possible solution

Locate pre-tensioner wiring connectors under front seats

cut out the connector and solder corresponding wires together

SRS (airbag) Light should be self cancelling if light still does not go out then its wallet out time and visit the dealer.

Note: Any faults will remain in the SRS ecu and will need to go to a dealer to erase memory should you wish to do so.

I can secod this because only today I started the car and the Airbag light just stayed on. Was just about to add this on the 'to do' list when I decided to switch off the car and restart it.... to my surprise, the airbag light went out as normal.

It's usually the connections under the seat, they get coroded, water in carpet etc, open the plug, clean connections, coat in WD40 and put back together, or replace the offending wire section (about 2in of the orange wire as a rule).

Search for problem before posting.

chrisb1357,
I agree with waynedl99 previous post, I had similar prob with my 97 Lag. Waggle connector under seat (may be under either front seats) & watch your airbag light go out (hopefully).
