Just check the car owner's manual! :)
Really, in simples terms, opne the boot. You will see some round plastic covers between the lights and the boot rubber. Remove them, then unscrew the lights out. If i recall correctly, the top lights come out first.

C5 Estate rear Lights

Post by johnway »

Hello,
You are in luck - just finished the job myself last week. Firstly, open the tailgate. Inside the pillars on both sides are 3 round plastic blanking caps. Gently prise these out (they are 40p each to replace!!) Now you will find retaining nuts at the end of the exposed holes (10 or 11mm I think). Unscrew the nuts and remove the lower lamp cluster first, then the upper. Behind each lamp cluster are the bulb holders - simply twist a fraction and the bulb holder will pull out. Replace bulbs as normal and refit - top cluster must be fitted first. The rear number plate bulbs are a bit of a pain (so are the headlamp bulbs). To get at the number plate bulbs I found that if you use a suitable jemmy (screwdriver handle etc) levering between the end of the plastic lens cover and the body surround, the cover will pop off. Again, be careful not to apply too much pressure and work both ends alertnately - it will come off!! Once off, pull out the bulb, replace and snap the cover back on. To replace the headlamp bulbs, on the offside it is easiest to take the battery out first. The nearside I managed with the assistance of a small mirror and very long nosed pliers - not a job to be done in the dark!!. Hope this helps,
Regards,
John.

I Blame it all on my Dad!! (Sadly had to give up driving & his 2nd BX) but Mum still has a C1.

Very many thanks to you both. I just need access to the rear at the moment since I'm fitting a towbar and electrics.
