Xantia Hdi 110 cam belt changed

Post by laitant »

Hi all, I have a Xantia Hdi 110 and was wondering when i should have the cam belt changed. It is a December 2000 with 29000 miles on it.
Any info would be great.

Regards Andy.

6 Years or 72K miles. I think Citroen say longer in terms of years - but I would be loath to leave one this long.

My handbook definitely states 100,000 miles under normal conditions, and a shorter distance, which I can't remeber offhand, for use under severe conditions, whatever thay may be.

I wonder if Citroen did what Renault used (& probably still do) - one service book for fleet cars - with extended service intervals, and one for private cars with horter intervals - in my HDi handbook its 72K - and I know that its been privatly owned from new. Perhaps cars destined for a fleet came with a "extended service" handbook?

Well, my 51 reg. C5 has also been owned privately from new...the thot plickens...I'll check *exactly* what the handbook says this evening and report back.
I certainly wasn't planning on having a belt change done before 100k, especially as I've just had to fork out for the new steering column

My 2001 Xantia HDi which I have owned from new definately gives 100k miles as the change point for the cambelt. I however have just had it done at 62k as I have seen first hand what can happen when they do go. But for sure the service book says 100k.

All XUD engines and early HDI have a recommended interval if 72k, although this is a tad long in my opinion, and I do them at 50k intervals. I removed a belt from a 75k car not long ago and it was in a really bad state. Stretched (slack) and with really bad root cracking on the teeth. The injection timing must have been all over the place.

If the C5 HDI has had an increase in the recommended interval, then I would expect that there has been an upgrade in material for the belt. I wonder how many C5's are going to have major damage when the belt is changed for a lesser quality one, and then left on for 100k miles.

For my money, (and for my engines) 50k is plenty long enough thankyou. I think it's a reasonable balance between ensuring it doesn't snap, and not changing it every 5 minutes. Plus, it's very easy to remember.

After all, that's why Vauxhall changed their service intervals from 9k to 10k miles. No changes were made to the engine at all, but because the interval was easier to remember and plan for, cars were being kept in better overall condition.

I thought my 2000 HDi110 was low mileage at 40,000, last year.
Oh my handbook is the 100,000 variety, 75,000 in 'severe'.

How on EARTH can a flexible drivebelt last for 150,000 miles?!? that's verging on ludicrous. I have a feeling that in 10 or so years, when these 1.4 and 1.6 HDI 16v engines are in the hands of the 5th owner, there are going to be a whole load of failed belts where they have simply been forgotten about.

I checked my handbook last night. Car is a 2001 C5 with the 110hp HDi.
Cambelt change is given as 100,000 miles ordinarily, or 80,000 miles in severe conditions, such as lots of cold starts, door to door delivery, or poor quality fuel. Though what the fuel has to do with cambelt life I'm not quite sure :?
