I have just discovered that, contrary to what I had been told, my ZX does not use H4's and instead uses some strange piddly little things, which I guess are H1's Not wishing to rely on wild guess and Haynes manual, can anybody confirm this (or even better, tell me the correct bulbs).
I have a 96, ZX Leader 1.9D It seems to have seperate main beam and full beam bulbs, but they are both these H1(?) things anyway (or look pretty similar).
Anybody fancy a nice pair of 30% brighter cool blue H4 Xenons for £15.49 (which is what I paid for them), before I try to send them back for a swap?
DOH!!! which bulbs?

okay, so just assume I am really stoopid here, does this mean that although they look similar, they are not H1's? Do I need to replace the high beam bulbs if I just want the standard headlight bulbs uprating? When I have full beam on it's okay (but not for other road users) but on normal main beam I cannot see a thing! I have checked that the headlights are in the normal position (marked 0). They are correctly aligned (MOT a month ago), but they are PANTS! Do you lovely chaps at Andyspares do a high power Xenon bulb? Shall I just fit a roof bar and strap 20 forward facing spotlights onto it? Bah!

Get yourself along to http://www.powerbulbs.com/ and order the 448's (H1's) there, £19.50 a set. I use the Philips Vision Plus for the dip beam in my ZX and certainly notice the difference. If your main beam is OK, leave it alone, just replace the 2 dip (ie Outer) bulb in each lamp with the new ones.
All clear now ?

Thanks Jon. I have negotiated with the chap I got the H4s from and he said he will do a straight swap. @ £13.99 plus £1.50 P&P I still think I got a reasonable deal.
I notice that there are lots of bulbs for sale on Ebay amd some are mega cheapo. I avoided these because I have this 'you get what you pay for' attitude sometimes. I find the choice on offer a bit confusing, I think the blue are pretty, but not as important as brightness, although all conditions sound nice... arrgh!
Tommorrow's project, buy a Freeview box for my deal old Mum for Christmas!

The idea that you get what you pay for doesn't always hold true . .
check out Auto Expresses test of H1 light bulbs on:

Philips is the clear winner and Osram did well, but some well known manufactures got well beaten by cheapies!

p.s. I use Philps Vision Plus in my XM, a clear improvement!
