NOISY HDI FUEL FILTER

Unread post by lawns »

Hi all,
My Xantia 110 occasionally has a loud metallic hammering noise coming from the fuel filter Housing on the engine.
I think the noise it is related to the lift pump in the tank as it has the same pulse frequency and stops when it does.
Has anyone any ideas on cause or cure as its getting worse?

After reading this I wonder if that is exactly what I have as well. See my post on "yet another problem".

A very commom failure on HDi models is the failure of the fuel pump, places in the tank. My guess is that your pump is packing up. As you can see, when it fails, your car will be immobilized :(

Mine had the same noise , i replaced with a new filter housing as i could not remove the top to put a new filter in and the noise stopped .

It seemed to be very blocked

All noises have stopped now from the housing and pump in the tank :D

i agree with that, change the complete housing & filter, this should sort the noise.
