C5 owner

Am shortly to become a C5 owner and will need to fit a towbar with twin electrics. Can anyone confirm whether or not the C5 is multiplexed?

Isn't multiplexing of wiring carried over from aircraft engineering ? I know it saves a great deal of weight because of less wiring in the car. But does it mean that towbar electrics (or any other accessories) will be more complicated to fit ?

for many years there have been special wiring kits for citroens which simply plug in. Judging from the number of people who have had the rear foglight problem they are in fact quite common and I suggest that you contact your friendly dealer and see what is available.

The foglight problem works like this. The Citroen kit is fitted with a superior plug which has a switch in the foglight terminal which cuts out the car foglights when a trailer is attached. replace the superior plug with an ordinary one when it gets damaged - and the car foglights mysteriously cease to work at all!

Yes the C5 is deffo multiplexed & assuming that you are talking about a Mk 1 C5 then there is no special instructions required to fit the electrics,just as you would normally do it.

Thanks to all for confirming the question of multiplexing on the C5. You're right! it looks as though it's a lot more complicated than what I've previously met.

C5 towbar

I bought my C5 second hand from the local Ford dealer, part of the deal was they had to fit a genuine towbar and new ashtray. They got the towbar in, but couldn't work out how to fit it, they payed for it to be fitted by the local Citroen dealer. The same with the ashtray 3 weeks later.

I'm still learning about this car however I don't think it's too difficult - just different than the run of the mill car.

I just hope I will be still enjoying the quirks in a few years time.

fitting a genuine citroen towbar kit is adifferent story but if you are fitting an aftermarket one then it is no different to what you would normally do.
