C5 COMPUTER

Post by CitroenNuts »

Hi Still having problems with the Antipollution Fault warning on My Citroen C5 This is all down to the cat,
Having just had it replaced by Kwik Fit for the second time since fitting only 2mths ago.
It has been in and out of the Local Dealers too many times and they say there is no fault with the car, ecu, filters, plugs or sensors and say it can only be that it isn't a genuine Citroen part.

Has anyone got any ideas if it is possible to disconnect the second sensor and trick the car into thinking it is the real deal as I just don't want to waste £876.25 for a Citroen cat with only 12mths guarantee

Help

P.S. My car has the EW10J4 2liter engine

This may not be of much help, but did the dealers try to upgrade the ECU/BSI software?

The last time I had it at the dealer they reste the system and updated the software so I would have to say its been tried.

Has anyone any Idea if it will do any harm driving the car like this as I'm thinking of removeing the Bulbs from the warning light and disabling The audio Beep warning ( Although I would still have the computer fault displayed)

Did the lambda sensors get replaced?
A cat per se isn't a problem as so many drivers get rid of them (mostly kids and their Saxos).

I found this link educational on this subject:

If it was Ok before KF changed the cat, it's their problem :!:

Take it to Trading Standards? If KF insist that their part works OK (and it should in law, as that's what they're selling it to do), it's their responsibility to get it to do so (and presumably for any dealer bills associated with resetting and testing).

Well I think it will need to be the dealer then as Trading standards will take forever and in the mean time I won't have the problem resolved anyway Kwik Fit have offered a full refund if i want to take it somewher else,

from what ive read regarding the sensors I would say its doing the car no good driveing it like this as the fule mix might be to pot.

Anyone know a good (cheap) citroen dealer or specialist near edinburgh or Glasgow ?

The link provided by 406V6 is very interesting and it seems that your problem could be something like an air leak or leaky injector, or even short runs. The question is which of that type of fault will show up on electronic diagnosis and which requires a bit of old fashioned experience?

So I'm starting to think it could even be just old sensors?

In other words the Dealer test the car it reads as a cat fault, Kwik fit say the cats fine yet the car says it isn't.

So my thinking old sluggish sensors work fine when tested but on long use play up?

Anyone with a clue as I'm not keen giving Citroen £ 875 for something that might not sort it?

im pretty sure the C5's instrument panel is a sealed unit & doesent have replaceable bulbs in it (it has small diodes instead) also the audio beep is an internal part of the steering column switch unit so you would have to destroy the little speaker to disable it.
removing the cat on a vehicle with two lambda sensors will also bring the management light on as will disconecting the second sensor.what the people who remove cats on these cars do is fit a special sleeve over the second sensor when they remove it (still leaving it plugged in),this tricks the ECU into thinking that the cat is still working efficiently & keeps the light out.if you are looking for one of these conact a company called GMC they are based in Newton Stewart in Dumfries & Galloway. tel 01671 403606
