Citroen question

I've heard mention of a model of Citroen called the Safari, now since I can find no mention of a Citroen Safari in some sites, I assume it's a subtype. What was it?

A few models had a Safari variant AFAIK. CX and DS are two I know of, others could well have had one too.

I think it was another name for an estate.

Safari was the name given to the DS estate, and to the CX estate with 5 seats. There was also the CX Familiale, which was in essence a CX Safari, but with an extra row of seats fitted (and the centre row a bit further forward) making it a true 7 seater (I'm 6' and can sit in the back of a familiale)

I'm not aware of a DS Familiale, but there may have been one.

In case anyone's THAT interested, I understand that the CX had fittings for both the Safari and the Familiale arrangement, so if you buy one variant, the seats and trim from the other will fit.

After the CX, the name "Break" appears to have taken over from Safari.

According to a book i have on magazine road tests and documents regarding the DS, the Safari version had 7 seats as standard, the rear ones being foldable.

Name safari was also I think used by Land Rover for the estate verions (88in and 109in) - not much chance of other confusion there!
