xantia heater matrix

it's nearly winter time again so i decided to renew the antifreeze (well water in this case) in the xantia t/d i got the proper antigel stuff and flushed and filled her up. Now my xantia has its own built in sauna! so i guess i have to put in that new heater maxtrix i have lurking in the shed!(she weeped a bit last year so i bought one just incase)So tell me how hard is it to do a matrix on a 1993 t/d xantia??

this antigel that you mentioned, where could i get some from as my engine is also due for a coolant change, and how much would i need, (1.6l 8v petrol) and what type of water are you going to use on re-filling??? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

i got mine from the peugeot dealership thats about 2 minutes away from my house! i'm sure citroen do it as well. i also use de-ionized water to refill - but i do have a de-ionizer unit that supplies water for my fish tanks, but most aquatic shops will sell you de-ionized / reverse osmosis water (pure water) at a reasonable price. All you need is a clean sealable storage container, i use 25 ltr food grade storage drums( a caravan drinking water container) that way you'll have enough spare to top up etc

approximate cooling capicites for a 8v petrol xantia without air/con is 7 litres
so 2 litres of antifreeze will give you about 30% mix which is good for -15 c
50% antifreeze/water will protect to about -30 c
so 2-2.5 litres of antifreeze will be more than enough

HEATER EFFING MAXTRIX!!!!!!!! £30 odd quid for a maxtrix not too bad but either £66+vat or £100+vat (depending on RP number)for the connection block (that snapped when i tryed to remove it) and hoses that are moulded onto it CITROEN you can stuff it up your rear!!! the local scrappy said we sell LOADS of these ( i still got two for a tenner) but i broke 3 out of 5 removeing them and these cars had no engines in !!
oh thats not forgetting the eight odd hours it takes to remove handbrake cables, centre console, dash, wipermotor, heater houseing etc etc to replace that maxtrix!!

Hi, I have replaced my heater matrix on my xantia TD, I wasn't as bad a job as it seems, providing you are competant at DIY, didn't even have any parts or screws left over. Main thing about doing the matrix is :- don't go into the job with a negative mind, just go into it with a positive attitude. The Haynes bible does tell you how to do the job, follow it and you wont go wrong. BUT, its false economy putting anything but a new matrix in .
