205 Rear Suspension

Post by Ian Fearn »

Hi there,
I've been to look at a 205 Turbo Diesel today which i was told needs rear radius arm bushes. The rest of the car is brilliant.
I've got a practical classics magazine here that tells me i'm looking at a 700quid bill to fix this.
Is this true?

300quid to your door is still a pricey on a cheap car like this.
What are the parts that wear and can you replace them yourself?

Its much more easy & less stress to change the whole rear axle then to start trying to extract the bearings & change them.
If the stub axles are worn then its even more money on top.
Trying to change the bearings on a older car like this is going to be a right knightmare!

First you will need to strip it down to see how bad it is,if the bearings have worn all the way into the subframe tube you will have no option but to change the complete assembly, best bet scrap yard, but if you can get away with only replacing the bearings and "inner" tubes you might do it for about a £100 try this link for more info on refurb http://www.205gtidrivers.com/articles.p ... beamrefurb

Scrappers sell full 205 rear suspension assemblies - that's everything simply unbolted from a donor car from the beam to the drums - for about £70 up. Look to spend at least £120 for a good one.
A 205td is a great car - well worth saving.
