Accumilator sphere - quick question

Unread post by j_roc »

Afternoon to all - Bought a new accumilator sphere and a litre of LHM from GSF, getting straight to the point - Do the threads on the sphere need instant gasket seal (i.e - hylomer) placing on it? I have had a look on previous posts, but it don't mention annything about it? Also (kind of worrying me!![:o)]) what's the buisness of bleeding the system after changing the sphere? I thought it was self bleeding? Many thanks - Alex. P.S im dodging the rain today [:D].

NO NO NO!!!!!! NO HYLOMAR!!!!!!!!!!![xx(] Nothing at all, only a thin smear of LHM- just make sure the threads are clean and spin it on hand tight only-like an oil-filter
You shouldn't need to bleed anything, just start the motor and do up the pressure release valve. It'll probably be a bit slow to initially rise but after that it'll be o.k.
In theory, a 10 minute job........[}:)]

Make sure you put some LHM on the rubber seal otherwise you may damage the seal.

Fantasic timing!
I just bought an accumulator from GSF Cheltenham and did the job this afternoon after reading the thread - 10 minute job ... well happy [:D]
My LHM had also taken a very sudden dip and a load would empty from the regulator assembly (I think), attached to the front accumulator when the engine was switched off. Turned out to be a low pressure pipe on the top had worked lose and only needed tightening.
Cheers,
Mark

Gonna have to do mine, getting frequent ticking on high / intermediate heights, plus front sometimes reluctant to rise... and jerky in operation (though thats probs a sticking height corrector).

Jerky rising is usually the front struts being sticky and has nothing to do with the height corrector.

Ticking rate should decrease on full height as the height correctors are open and the suspension spheres function as accumulators!
So your accumulator sphere may be ok and the problem could be the regulator non-return valve. This can be re-seated - there are instructions on here.
