Manual ZX 1.4 Clutch

Post by Marlon65 »

The clutch of my 10-year-old Citroen at 242,000 KM is starting to slip for the pass 6 months. It never slips at low gear, only on high gear, at 3rd, but mostly on 5th gear, especially when climbing or going to elevated roads. I asked my mechanic to adjust the clutch 4 months ago due to this, it improved, but I still experience it. My question is, can it be fixed by adjusting the clutch cable or do I really have to change the clutch pads since it has never been replaced? By the way, the slipping is noticed since the RPM would go say from 2,000 to 3,000 very fast without any gain in speed. And the sound of the engine would go loud. I would then release the gas pedal, then step on the pedal slightly to avoid it from slipping.
Also, please tell me what spares do I need to buy. Thanks.

No, I dont think adjusting will help, you need a new clutch. Having said that, the clutch in my XM was slipping like that for about 20k miles, providing you dont let it slip by backing off when it starts, it could last a lot longer.
