Gearboxes?

Post by Twiss »

Hi everyone
Does anyone know of where I could get new / reconditioned Gearbox from or even an uprated Gearbox?
Thanks

Many reconditioners used to advertise in Exchange and Mart
Presumably you require this for your ZX TD. What year is it? - This may make a difference to the clutch actuation.
Is yours broken - or is the change bad?

Is the clutch biting near the floor? If so tightening the cable may improve things. Difficulty with both may be an external linkage problem rather than internal. Have you checked all the linkage, especially the length of the 2 small transverse rods?
And of course its got the correct amount of the CORRECT oil in it hasn't it? Modern gearboxes are very sensitive to the grade of oil and the wrong grade will cause shift problems. You should use the correct BV grade. (BV = Boite Vitesses - literally speed box - or something like that)

I've heard a few horror stories about those 'reconditioned' gearboxes. That they're assembled in suburban garages by asylum seekers on piecework, that sort of thing. And if a worn part's not readily to hand, well, just turn round the existing part and use the other face, no-one's ever going to know.........
I really think you'd do better with a 50K gearbox from a scrappy!

ok on that note
I have greased the linkages and that eased the problem.
I'll take a look at the clutch cable and see if that helps
I'll be back.
