CAT removal from a 98 diesel?

Post by tfurness »

Hi, anyone know if its legal to remove a catalytic converter from a 1998 Citroen diesel van and replace it with the non-cat pipe?
Cheers Tom

There is no *legal* requirement to have a catalyst on any car, but it's about the only way that petrol cars can meet ever more stringent emission requirements.
As far as diesels are concerned, they only have to be below a certain opacity limit on exhaust smoke, and the removal of the catalyst wiill have little or no effect on this. Go for it!
Hope this helps.

Oh thats clear then!
I will take it off and weld it up and then replace it with a non-cat pipe. Then wait until emissions day.
Thanks Tom
