misfuelling

Post by Millie »

Hiya
Have a problem - have put 6litres of unleaded in my diesel picasso. The tanks was 1/4 full when I filled up. Started to fill and realised my mistake - had only put in 6litres. Then I filled up the whole tank with diesel (hoping to dilute it) - will this be okay. Car is booked in for service on 27/9/05. Have driven 36 miles since making mistake and it all seems okay.
Please can someone help??

Millie, no need to worry, the car should be fine. If you are very concerned, just add about 3 litres of cooking oil from any supermarket to your fuel (put it straight into the fuel tank) that will offset the 'thinning' effect of the petrol, but it's not really necessary.. [:)]

Think of it as expensive injector cleaner- it shouldn't do any harm, anyway, and may actually do some good !!!

No comment except to say:
Whats the likely cost if it goes wrong?
How much will it cost to drain?
Are you a gambler?

I honestly don't think you're going to do any damage, as the petrol was diluted with diesel straight away before you ran the engine again. 6 litres is only just over a gallon, and the Picasso tank holds about 12 gallons?
I bet it's a mistake you won't make again though[:I]
