205 Twin choke carb

Post by jpl »

Can anybody tell me what the electrical connection at the back of the
Solex 32 34 z2 twin choke carb off a 205 XS or Citroen AX GT does.
Can I leave it disconnected as I cannot see a way of connnecting to my TU1 engine and wiring loom.

Does the car run OK if not connected? If so, don't bother. As long as there is no air leaks, I doubt it needs an electrical connection.

it's most likely an anti-dieseling solenoid. It may need to be energised with the ignition in order to allow the car to run properly. When the ignition is cut, it closes off a drilling within the carb to prevent the engine from running on (dieseling)
It could also be an electrically heated auto choke connection, and if that's the case, then the choke will take a week and a day to come off after starting the engine if it's not powered.
Best to find out what it's for. Can you post a picture?

It heats the bottom of the carb. Fed off ignition. As it heats up it's resistance changes so it doesn't heat unless it is cold (does that make sense?)
You probably will not notice any differene with it disconnected, maybe it will run slightly rough for a minute or two after starting in the middle of winter.

I'll see if I can find an ignition feed
