Citroen XM 2.5 TD- what engine?

Post by Simon Canfer »

What engine does the XM 2.5TD use? I have googled for this without success. I find it hard to believe it has the same engine the Pug 505 had all those years ago.
As far as I understand the XUD block was taken out to 2.1 litres but no further...

The XM is DK5ATE, 2446cc, and the Indenor unit of the 505 is the XD3T 2498cc.

The 2.5 is not an XUD although it has a similar hydraulic tappet arrangement to the 2.1 there the similarity ends. It is used in a Citroen van but not in anything else as far as I am aware. They are more difficult to work on than the 2.1 and also mre difficult to get spares for.

Caution! There are differences between the van engine and the 2.5 XM!
The head and head gaskets are different,(so I understand) and the car has balancer shafts which the van does not.
