It's a W reg 2000cc Renault Scenic, petrol.
I knew it had a weak battery from when we had a service/MOT a few months ago. I parked on my parents drive and stood chatting to them for a few minutes, and when I went to drive off it would'nt start - I think the radio may have been on. I tried bump starting it down the drive, then my dad & DH tried jump starting it with leads, it would make a noise as if it was going to leap into life, but wouldn't fire/ catch? Whatever you call it! So we called the AA - he did exactly the same, it wouldn't start even with his massive jump leads etc
. So he was wondering whether it had something to do with the immobiliser, but I don't think so, you were still getting the turning over sound, it just wouldn't start :-[ Besides, we've jump started it before with no problem (only once, we don't make a habit of it!).The AA man tested the electrics apparently (my dad doesn't believe him as he was quite a miserable bloke!) and he reckoned that the fuses were OK, and the electric was getting to the fuses, but not everything was working on the dashboard...the hazards didn't work, the washer jets did but the wipers didn't, the ignition lit up when you tried to start it....
So apparently I need to get a electrics diagnostic someone round, but I've also been told it could be the alternator! I have just been out to buy a brand new battery which I will put on tonight & pray for a miracle! Any advice would be MUCH appreciated & rewarded by real life choccy in the post!!
