BX LHM

Unread post by Rob Marshall »

While I'm posting like mad....
Changed the LHM on my car last summer, and then did 2,000 miles on hydroflush; filled up with new LHM and bled it.
Checked the condition of it a year and 10K later...and it's going yellow!! Amm planning to change it next year, but surprised it's going yellow already!

Wow nice BX, my LHM usually finds a way out long before it goes yellow[:D]

Was it Total or Morris LHM - Morris goes off colour quicker - buy some drain testing dye and restore that flouresent colour in an instant [;)]

I think it was Morris's stuff: Sold by GSF in the blue bottles. AS I said, it has only been in the system for a year. Is it worth leaving it for another year; or should I panic and change the LHM...

My BX's LHM was changed about 2 years and 13,000 miles ago. I had a look in the reservoir yesterday and it is brown. So this mornings job was to clean out reservoir and put in new LHM. I will monitor the colour of it more often now and change it more often I think.
I don't know how often it was changed for the first 12 years of the car's life before I owned it.

Scott, if history of LHM change is unknown, why not use orange "Hydraflush" (Hydraurincage) before putting in new standard green LHM again?
It surely helped me a lot.

The same thing happened with my Xantia and BX. After buying the cars second-hand, I checked the LHM and it was BROWN... Hydraurincage certainly did solve some of the problems on the Xantia.

perhapes you did not get all of the hydroflush out of the system,i certainly would not add any fluids to the system that are not ment to be in there ie dies and wotnot

Cauchioskev: you just found out a nice way of making LHM out of hyraflush!

I always used to do a yearly LHM change on both the BX and the Xantia. It seemed like a good idea, and I never had any hydraulic related problems. After a year the fluid always had a slight yellow tinge, which is OK, but when it starts to go brown it definitely is time for a change[:)]

I changed my LHM with the proper stuff in green and white tins, and even bled it out through brakes to get every last bit of hydraflush out but noticed black bits moving within the fluid when attending to a disconected clear return pipe coming from the rear struts- ie, I put the car from max to min and quickly got out to have a look at where fluid was leaking from and saw the black bits move as fluid came out. Hopefully as its just a trickle return it will either never get back to the tank or will be filtered out if it gets there.

green/white tins are bendix, citroens usuly have a lable stateing citroens prefer TOTAL LHM,so we sould asume TOTAL is true cit/blood,allthough some people say citroen used to use bendix

My honest belief is that the only difference between Bendix/Total/Esso/Castrol LHMs is a price tag...
I assume they all must conform to the same standard, do not they?
