Xantia-no ignition no dashlights - radio works!

Unread post by stevefaunt »

Hi all
I hope someone can shed light on my problem.
I have a 98 Xantia TDlx Estate. No Alarm just the transponder immobiliser.
One minute everything was working fine - went back to the car a few hours after using it and it would not start. No dash lights - no turnover from the engine - nothing - just a relay clicking behind the fuse box! The radio works - the lights work - the interior courtesy lights work. The indicators don't work - but the hazard warning lights do.
Basically anything that requires the ignition to be on does not work.
A recovery guy tried jump starting it - and tried bypassing the ignition - it turned over strongly but would not start.
I have checked all of the fuses and they are fine.
The only things I can think of is an ignition switch fault - or the immobiliser - does anyone know how the immobiliser works? i.e. would I get dash lights - even the battery light on the first notch of the ignition if it was the immobiliser?
Any help much appreciated

I think you will find that it is the ignition switch that is at fault, not the ignition lock or immobliser
