Hello, can anyone tell me whether the 1.4 energy engine fitted to Megane's & Clio's is the same engine as is fitted to the 19 1.4? I have a 1994 RT ( I think, should know shouldn't I[:I]) on which the head gasket has just decided to stop working. Got home from shirk last night and was unlocking the front door when I realised I could hear what sounded like a kettle boiling behind me. Upon lifting the bonnet I determined the noise was coming from the cylinder head. I knew I was losing coolant but not where, as there was no mayonnaise in the rocker cover when I checked.
Closer inspection revealed a steady drip from the block/head joint between no.1 & no.2 cylinder.
I was simply intending to replace the gasket but was wondering, if I needed a new head, whether the later 1.4 energy engines were identical or had been altered at all?
I am now debating whether to (a) replace the gasket with head skim and/or replace the head if it is cracked or (b) get a seconhand lump from a crash wreck in the scrappy, which should mean the engine is OK as long as it was a side/rear impact. I would only use a genuine Renault head gasket as I have had mixed results with pattern ones before so this may push the costing towards a scrappy unit. Can anyone give me a definite answer one way or t'other?
Ta.
P.S. If I do go down the head rebuild route, I can at least get Mr die grinder to work on the ports & valves[}:)] I know it's only a 1.4 but every little helps[:D]
