BX Heater control

Post by djc1960 »

Just posted a topic about Xantia heater that reminded me of a BX Heater Control issue I had.
This one may have been posted in the past, before I found the forum so please excuse if this is a repeat.
Problem was, no power to the heater blower. After some searching I traced the fault to the power transistor that is electrically speaking between the blower knob and the blower motor.
Turns out there's a clip that "earths" the transistor case and makes the circuit and the connection was dirty. Cleaned it and all was fine for a couple of months when it quit again. Got it out and sure enough it was dirty again. Didn't fancy taking the blower (where it's mounted) out regularly so I just soldered a wire on the PCB between the clip mounting and the case connection, bypassing the dirty clip connection. Never had a problem after that. Beats me why they didn't do that in the first place. Probably some good reason.
