citroen zx, linkage

Unread post by messiah150 »

Hi there, need to know something about the gear linkage on my zx 1.8. the main rod that connects from the gear stick to the gear box has a rubber ball joint pushed into the end of it. On mine this is very loose, when changing gear it almost pops out, is this supposed to be like this, when i took it off it just fell off. I'm also having problems selecting gears, it crunches between shifts. perhaps the rubber joint is supposed to be a tight fit?
any ideas folks?
cheers!!

Im sure its supposed to be fairly tight, as it should take some pursuasion to get off / put back on. Probably worn out.

just an update, havent sorted the car properly yet but suspecting it was this rubber joint i wrapped it in a grease soaked cloth and put it back together just to see if it made a difference before i went out and spent money on the parts. and it worked, although the gear change wasnt precise, it did go in gear and stay in gear, and didnt crunch everytime. apparantly the rubber joints called a bell crank pivot??
I'll be off to citroen first thing tomorrow to get one
cheers folks!

If its a lot of money go to a scrappies and get a couple of them...or go on GSF if they happen to stock...but compare Citroens prices with others

just tried getting this bell crank pivot off from the one up the scrap yard which appears to be in v good condition and it took 5 minutes to get off. got home and i've spent about an hour so far trying to remove the old one. its only held on by one bolt. theres no way of drilling it out because i'd probably have to remove the engine just to get the drill in there. any ideas?

another update on the gearbox
replaced the bell crank pivot with a much better condition one from the scrap yard. now it stays in all gears, doesnt jump out of reverse. but it still graunches throughy some of the changes, mostly changing down gears, from 5-4 4-3 3-2. the only thing i can think of now is maybe its the gear linkage? i've had them off and they dont look too bad. Are these main dealer parts because Citroen probably charge a small fortune for them?
cheers
