New clutch on 405 td

Post by matt »

Hi all,Can anyone advise on the best way of tackling this job?Ive read the haynes about 4 times now but still cant decide whether or not to remove engine and box or just the box, plus my car is fitted with aircon which is said to get in the way when tilting the engine.
Or should i take it to a garage[:0]to save the hassle!

No need to drop the lump on these, The gearbox slides nicely to the side & leaves you enough room to change the clutch.
The aircon pipes run near the top of the gearbox & under the battery tray.
Stick new driveshaft oil seals in & change the mounting rubber on top of the box too while its in bits.

Having just changed changed the clutch in my 405 (well assisting really Vanny did all the hard work) i can say allow pleanty of time and have some rope to hand to tie all the aircon pipes/condensor (i think) to one side when refitting. The ones at the front of the box by the rad get in the way. Also Powerlee says the gearbox can be slid to one side but i found it had to be rotated a little and dropped out the bottom to allow any room to work on the clutch. Which led to lots of fun putting the Bar£$%d gear box back in the car.
Check the condition of the gear links/selector links too while your are at it there only about £20-30 from a main stealers (gsf dont do them) and changing them makes a whole world of difference to the feel of gear changes.
Good luck mate
