I've finally got my TZD back together after the cam belt mishap and when I tried to fire it up today - no fuel flow through filter. I tried priming it with the bulb on the filter top housing but all I get is a 'whoosh' sound with air blowing/sucking from the vent so I assume the diaphragm in the primer is shot. I had this problem last time I changed the filter and had to use a length of tubing from the inlet of the filter up to a container of diesel to get it started - which worked. However, this time, the pump and injectors are also dry due to the head being off, so I have my doubts this will work.
Has anyone had this problem before - is there an easy way to get fuel to the pump so I can bleed the system before tightening the lines to the injectors?

Nip up all lines to injectors.
Then insert a T-piece on the sucking side between the bulb and pump intake. Connect a one-way valve to the T-port such that your applied pressure on the bulb will open the valve. Once the T-port valve starts emitting fuel block/blank it off.
Any standard one way valve would do.
