Xantia Strange Noise / Behaviour!!!!!

Hi all.
Wonder if anyone can help.
Have a 99 auto xantia 1.8i lx. Lately approx 5 minutes into a drive there suddenly comes a strange high pitched wining (almost as though the revs have gone up although they dont seem to have!)and both the traction and frozen indicaters on the auto box dash display start flashing!
I then have to stop the car, re-start, and drive on as though nothings happened!
What could be happening here? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Having the wrong type of oil can make weird things happen in an outo box, try changing - replacing the oil before you get too involved.
