Anybody Know Where This Thing Fits?

Post by Ross_K »

Went to fill the Xantia up this evening on the way home, opened the filler flap and this little bugger popped out: [xx(]
Image
It's snapped (duh) on the longer side. I was going to glue it back in, but I can't see where it's supposed to go. [:I] The flap's a bit loose without it when closed - I can live without it but I don't like bits falling off at random. [:D] Does it look familiar to anybody?
Cheers for any pointers...

It looks like the piece of plastic pressing on the hinge of the filler flap from behind to give some resistance against accidental opening.
The should be two, but on my car both have broken off without ill effects except the filler flap opening without resistance.

I had a feeling the hinge would have to come out. There's no resistance left whatsoever, so the other one must have dropped off at an earlier stage. Oh well...
Thanks for the reply samtronic

There are 2 as samtronic says and the fuel flap can be taken off if you remove the 3 screws which will allow you to glue it on better if you feel you must.

I've had a couple of these break too, 3 torx screws get them off, them you pull the pin out with a pair of molegrips and the obligatory swearing.
I had a go at gluing them back together without a whole lot of success, you can sort of fill them up with silicone or the like but they're never as good repaired as new ones.

Thanks for that part no. stempy. I've got to get a few other bits and bobs at the stealer over the weekend, so if it's only a fiver for a new one I might just bite the bullet and splash out [:D]
Thanks again folks
