Xantia HDI buying
Been offered a Xantia HDI 110 SX AC 135k on the clock for £1250 with full service history. Car is mucky inside but little actual damage. Bodywork is straight. The car drove well on test, very quick, started well temp guage remained between 80-90 probably sat at 85 I would guess. Clutch was light and not high. Car rose and fell ok and didn't tick too much, aircon appeared to work. Spheres felt like they needed changing soon and engine bay was mucky. No towbar was fitted. It had a long MOT on it. Anyone got any thoughts and opinions or why it might be so cheap and what is likely to be wrong with it. It has been serviced by a Citroen independent since about 70k. Before that it was main dealered. Thanks for your help guys..

Front and rear disks rust. Check. £100++
New cambelt? New crankshaft pulley? If not budget £300.
All electrics work? Central locking? 2 keys?
Tyres?

Big Citroens dont hold their value well - My own Xantia depreciated from £14500 to £3500 in four years (thankfully I didnt own it whilst it was dropping like a stone).
On the flip side, keep it for 20 years of so and it will probably attain Cla$$ic status and be worth what you paid for it!
If its got a good (reliable and verifiable) service history then it could be worth a punt. things like fuel pumps have a tendancy to go pop, but the bottom end of the engine is the same as the XUD9 and the gearbox on thet one is the same as the 2.1 TD - its only now that high miler HDi's are starting to emerge - and its probably more likely any real pain in the bum faults will be electrical (ECU).
Mine so far has yet to break the 50K barrier so it works OK for now. Engine bay muck is likely to be a missing engine bay tray - but check for any oil leaks - basically do the same sort of thisngs you would do if it was a 2.1 or 1.9 TD engine.
