Keypad immobiliser
Does anyone know what it does??
This multipoint I fitted, I've finally got round to powering everything up but although I get fuel there is nothing else.
I have read storys of keypads being locked to the ecu & alike but wondere if anyone knew what it actually did, that way I might be able to formulate a plan to bypass it.

Hi
I didnt say the keypad wasnt bypassable, You can do it if you spend around £250 - £300 on an unlocked ECU.
Did the ZX start life with a keypad? Did the 306 the engine & ECU come out of have a keypad fitted?
If yes to both questions, Did they both have the SAME type of keypad fitted? Theres 2 different kinds!
Theres the easy to beat "D/N" button type & the Thatcham Cat 2 "S" button type ( Still beatable though )

ok, I've emailed a few people lets see what response I get.
To unlock a ecu, I've read, you start the car, disconnect the pad/transponder wire & it disables the immob permantly. But if you removed the ECU plug would it not revert back to factory defaults?

Never tried to unlock one, I do know a lot of people get caught out by disconnecting the keypad, All is fine untill the battery goes flat or gets disconnected then the ECU has a sulk & locks up looking for the keypad.
Thats ok if you have the code, I think unlocking is a bit more involved then that.

the keypad its not matched to the ECU,the code is just stored in the ECU.if i had a car with the code 1111 & borrowed the keypad from a mates car that had the start code 2222 & pluged it into my car the code to start my car would still be 1111.
If you unplug the keypad/transponder unit when the engine is running the ECU should stay unlocked even if the battey or ECU are disconected as they cant comunicate with each other.

This really doesn't help your problem but I run without a keypad. Started the car (over a year ago now) by putting in the number and disconnected the keypad whilst it was running. I've had the battery disconnected a few times now and although the alarm goes off each time I reconnect it - a quick lock and unlock of the doors stops it (this may be normal behavior). I've never had any problems starting and the ECU has never played up. The only problem is I can't remember where I wrote the code down now! I should have entered it in the handbook. Oh well, time will tell!
interesting.
The problem that I have is that I have the engine fitted & the thing insn't starting, the fuel pump doesn't run so I suspect its probably the immobiliser kicking in. Because the engine is out of a 306 I don't have anything more than the engine & wiring loom, so I can't yet do the unplug the keypad part, mainly because I havn't got one.
