Hi All,
Have a problem with my 98 Laguna 2.0 Executive Auto. I have a mis fire of sorts. Narrowed it down to cylinder no1 (with engine running remove HT lead and nothing changes) when removing any of the others the engine tries to stall.
Anyway have changed spark plug and HT lead and no better so am a bit stuck as to what it could be.
If anyone has any suggestions please help as the car seems to be overfuelling as well and its costing me a fortune in petrol (average 25mpg)
Could it be an injector? Coil pack?
Thanks in advance.
A Little Help Please!

I think that you have seperate coil packs on this engine (but don't quote me). Each coil pack sits on or around the spark plug and look like part of the HT lead. I know that on the Megane 2ltr the coils degrade after about 4 to 5 years, they give a sort of 'mis-fire' feel. You may have the twin pack type. Two coil packs that sit on the RH end of the cam shaft cover. One coil powers 2 plugs. So if you know which is number 1 then trace it back. Test by holding the HT lead pluged in with the plug against the block and checking for a spark. Hope this helps

Hi,
Thanks for the help!
There is a spark there so would this point to a fuelling problem i.e injector?
Anything else you can suggest?
Also the auto box seems to be selecting the gears to soon (changes into 4th and getting vibration through engine bay as though struggling for power) would this point to a speed sensor do you think?
Thanks again for the help.

Have asked a few mates about this and they all say the same thing, injector problem. Could be just a blockage, have you tried any of the fuel cleaners on the market? It could be a dirty fuel filter and this is stopping fuel to the full set of injectors. May be a pressure regulator. You can test the injectors by removale and then turning the engine over. Try to catch the fuel in a jam jar, but this aint recomended. As for your gear box, have you changed or checked the oil latley? If the oil is brown it needs changing.
PS, You can have the injector system checked by those home mechanics Mr. Tune etc. Try a web serch for you area, or www.yell.com

Thanks very much mate!
On way home earlier the auto transmition warning light came on and the computer said "warning auto transmition in safe mode please refer to handbook" so i stopped and turned off the engine and started it again and was ok!
Checked handbook and it says there is an electrical or electric fault and to consult dealer asap?
Any idea what this could be? Speed sensor maybe? (would explain both faults)
Thanks again.

I agree with Morphious......if you have the two ignition packs on the front of the engine one of those is breaking down, this is a common problem. If you have this variant change the two over and see if it effects the other cylinders.
The auto boxes on these cars are well known in the trade as when they go faulty after receiving that meassage often, the box will eventually select emergency protection mode and stays in (I think) second gear. I have had three through my hands, two bought from auction (Cheap!) only to find the auto boxes were in the same state. I spent £129 just having one car examined and put on the diagnostic machine to no avail. I hope you fair better. I will never touch another Renault auto box car again.
